Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Insight on the Word

The word “again” means “once more” and evidently points to a repeat of the truth of Matthew 18:18: “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Every believer has power to bind and loose. Verse 19 expresses it in the form of anything asked for by any two in agreement shall be done.

Verse 19 is filled with relationship words: “I, two of you, agree, touching, they shall ask, done for them, and my Father. The Christian life is one of relationship. Jesus the Son of God provides access to the Father. We have the promise that when we pray in agreement with other believers, “any thing” that we ask will be done by the Father in Heaven.

It is comforting to know we are not in our earth walk alone. Jesus walks with us daily and His Spirit abides in our life. And, in addition we have the encouragement, help, and accountability, that other believers offer. Think about this. When we have a prayer need, we can call on our brothers and sisters in the Lord for support. We can check out our motives with them; consult them on the will of God for our request; ask for and inspection of our lives in order to locate anything that may hinder our prayer from being answered; and talk about the promises of God that bring faith for our request. It is easy to see now, that after coming into agreement with other believers, how the Lord Jesus could make such an all encompassing statement: “any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them…”
Why not take the time today to share a prayer need with another believer!
