Psalm 145:14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

Insight on the Word

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27). As creator God is responsible for His creation. This is called providence, which means: “the care of God; divine superintendence or direction for and over His creation.” God’s providence is expressed here in two ways.

First, God upholds all that fall. He helps all that cannot keep their feet such as the weak and infirm. If they will rely on God, the strongest power cannot overcome them (1 Cor. 10:13). To experience this care we must walk in righteousness for the wicked are outside of God’s care but the righteous are upheld. “For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous (Psalm 37:17). Even against the attacks of Satan, we can be secure in Christ and His support of us. “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:” (Luke 22:31-32).

Second, God raises up all that are bowed down under the weight of the world. Again righteousness is required. “…the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down: the Lord loveth the righteous:” (Psalm 146:8). Jesus is a lifter of those who are bowed down: “there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. …And he (Jesus) laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” (Luke 13:11, 13).

Rest assured today that even though you fall or get bowed down: “The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.”
