Scripture Reading

Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Insight on the Word

These words of Christ mean more than just declaring something lawful or unlawful by preaching. It also means to confirm the truth by power demonstrations, just as Christ and the apostles did. It is not only the church leadership, but every believer who has this power to bind and loose.

This passage of Scripture is filled with meaning and revelation. First of all Jesus tells us that when we bind or loose something on earth it is backed up or enforced in Heaven. We are like ambassadors representing a far away kingdom. (2 Corinthians 5:20) We are here on this earth with the full authority and privileges that Heaven offers.

Secondly, this passage may also have the meaning that when we bind or loose something on earth, then in the heavenly realm that surrounds this earth, there is a binding and loosing that takes place. This is very important for it is in this heavenly realm that Satan and his fallen angels abide. (Ephesians 2:20; 6:12) When on this earth Satan and his kingdom of darkness come against us, we have the right and power of Christ to bind Satan in Jesus Name! When we do this, Heaven backs up our command; and in the heavenlies Satan and his angels are bound. Their hands are tied, so to speak, from working evil against us. It is at this point that we are free to loose the angels of the Lord to do ministry on our behalf. (Daniel 10:13; Hebrews 1:14; Matthew 4:1-11)

What an awesome power Christ has given us—to bind and to loose. Today take full advantage of your authority in Christ. Live this day as an ambassador of the Lord exercising your full rights and privileges.

Speak the Word — Jesus said all things are possible when I believe! (Matthew 18:18)
