Proverbs 4:8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

Insight on the Word

Nothing can compare with wisdom. Solomon tells us that if we will exalt wisdom in our lives, it will promote us and bring us honour.

We first have opportunity to receive wisdom at the feet of our parents. Wisdom comes as we hear and pay attention to those who care for us. (Proverbs 4:1) Likewise, as children of God, we also learn that wisdom comes from the pages of the Bible. It is found in sound doctrine and the law of the Lord. (Proverbs 4:2) We are to strive to retain God’s word and keep His commandments. (Proverbs 4:4)

Life has many duties and responsibilities: acquiring a place to live, food to eat, clothing, an inheritance for our children, and much more. But above all else we should seek to acquire wisdom. Solomon says it this way: “Wisdom is the principal thing.” (Proverbs 4:7) That is wisdom should be “first-place” in our lives.

The fact that you have read this devotional and a portion of God’s Word, shows that you value wisdom. Why not continue in this day acquiring wisdom in each activity you undertake. Look for something new… learn the way something works… seek to understand those you meet… give time to study God’s creation, and most of all… seek God’s wisdom through the study of His Word! As you do you will be tremendously blessed. For the Scripture promises: “Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour.”

Speak the Word — I am acquiring wisdom and God is promoting me! (Proverbs 4:8)
