Scripture Reading

Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Insight on the Word

Ascending “the hill of the Lord” and standing “in his holy place!” Receiving “the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from God! What a great place to be in God! Indeed Christ Himself, through the power of the new birth, “hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places” (Ephesians 2:6).

Yet this place of exaltation does not come to just anyone. It is the reward of those who seek God and meet the four qualifications of Psalm 24:4. It comes to those who have clean hands, or right actions (Psalm 15:1-5); to those who have a pure heart, or right thoughts (Matthew 5:8); to those who do not practice idolatry, or worship other gods (Galatians 5:19-21); and to those who walk in truthfulness (1 John 1:6; 3 John 1:4).

Righteousness then is simply a life that is lived right. It is a life that is in right standing with God and others. A righteous person worships God and God alone; he has no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3). A righteous person lives right by his fellowman. He treats others as God requires (1 Thessalonians 5:15) and as he himself would like to be treated (Luke 6:31).Purpose to walk right toward God and others this day; and truly you shall receive: “the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from… God.”

Speak the Word — God blesses me with righteousness! (Psalm 24:5)
