Scripture Reading

Psalm 112:6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

Insight on the Word

The life of the believer is one of permanence and endurance; thus the Psalmist says that the righteous shall “not be moved for ever.” While the wicked or forgotten; “…I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten…” (Ecclesiastes 8:10) the lives lived by those who are righteous are remembered forever. This chapter is filled with unforgettable characteristics of the righteous:

delights “greatly in his commandments.” (v. 1)

His children are “mighty upon earth.” (v. 2)

“Wealth and riches” are in his house. (v. 3)

“he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.” (v. 4)

He “sheweth favour, and lendeth.” (v. 5)

He “will guide his affairs with discretion.” (v.5)

He is not “afraid of evil tidings.” (v. 7)

His heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.” (v. 7)

His heart is established.” (v. 8)

He sees “his desire upon his enemies.” (v. 8)

He gives “to the poor. (v. 9)

He “endureth for ever.” (v. 9)

He is “exalted with honour.” (v. 9)

With all of these blessings being displayed before the world, the “wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.” (verse 10)

Today we will make many choices! And the choices we make have great and grave consequences. We can serve sin, living wickedly, being forgotten and finally perish; or we can serve God, live a blessed and righteous life, and “be in everlasting remembrance.”

Speak the Word — I live righteously, God remembers me! (Psalm 112:6)
