Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Insight on the Word

That physical health and healing is referred to in this passage is clear. For verse 22 states: “health to all their flesh,” not health to all their spirit! The fact is, God’s Word brings health to our physical body. And for all those who find the Word, and apply it to their body, there is life and health to all their flesh (Psalm 91; 107:20; John 15:7).

The Hebrew word for health in verse 22 is “marpe” and it means: a curative, a medicine, or a cure. The Word of God is “marpe” or medicine to the flesh of man. We know that God is our great physician (Exodus 15:26), now we know that the prescription he writes is His Word! But how do we apply this medicine of the Word to our flesh?

This passage list four keys to applying the Word of God to our physical body. 1) Attend to God’s words (Proverbs 4:20); 2) Incline our ears to God’s sayings (Proverbs 4:20); 3) Constantly look into God’s Word (Proverbs 4:21; Psalm 1:2-3; James 1:21-27; 2 Timothy 3:16); And 4) Keep the Word in our heart (Proverbs 4:21; Romans 1:16; 10:17).

When we as believers awake to our full rights in the gospel we can have health of body as well as soul (3 John 1:2; 1 Peter 2:24; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16).

Why not begin applying the Word of God to your body this day. All day long speak the Word over your physical man. That is, be attentive to God’s Word by inclining yourself to constantly look into it; and then keep and believe the word in your heart. In other words, make your body take its medicine! By doing this you too will find that His Word is truly “health to all their flesh.”

Speak the Word — God’s Word is health to all my flesh! (Proverbs 4:22)
