Psalm 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Insight on the Word

Those who have been blessed by God’s righteousness are to be thankful. What a joy it is for a father to give gifts to his children. It is even more joyful when that child returns to show appreciation and give thanks for the gifts of the father.

How thankful are you for God’s gifts? We are to demonstrate our thankfulness to God. The Psalmist said: “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart” (Psalm 32:11).

While our righteousness is a gift, it is also a way of life. We are to live right! As we live right before God our thankfulness is evident. Isaiah tells us that for the righteous “it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings” (Isaiah 3:10).

Living and doing right has many rewards, one of which is the enjoyment of God’s presence: “in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:11). Not only do we enjoy God’s presence on earth, but God is preparing to Rapture His children, taking us to Heaven “to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Jesus Himself promised: “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3). So whether it be here upon this earth or in Heaven, we shall dwell in the presence of the Lord, and for this we should truly be thankful.

Live out this day in thankfulness. Do not fail to count your blessings and let God know you appreciate Him. Give God praise, shout for joy, be a glad and grateful child. Live right and holy. You have God’s promise “the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”

Speak the Word — I live upright, I dwell in the presence of God! (Psalm 140:13)
