Scripture Reading

John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive:…)

Insight on the Word

Israel had assembled for the Feast of Tabernacles to offer sacrifices (Leviticus 23:34-36). On this day a priest drew water from the pool of Siloam in a golden vessel and brought it to the temple. When the morning sacrifice was on the altar he poured this water mingled with wine upon it, while the people were singing with great joy. It was perhaps at this time that Jesus prophesied the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the life of each believer.

The Spirit-filled life is for all believers; for in John 7:37 Jesus makes an offer to “any man” of every race and generation to experience the “rivers of living waters” (Matthew 3:11; Acts 2:38-39). The words: “He that believeth,” proves that the promise is for every man, as much as it does in John 3:18,36; 5:24; 6:35,40; 11:25; 12:44; and 14:12.

To walk in this experience Jesus said we are to: “Thirst” (John 7:37), having an ardent, eager, famishing, keen, all-consuming craving for the fullness of the Spirit (Psalm 63:1); “Come” (John 7:37), with a compete surrender to do the whole will of God (Isaiah 55:1); “Drink” (John 7:37), or receive the gifts, fruit, and operations of the Holy Spirit (Revelation 22:17); And “Believe” (John 7:38), in and obey the gospel (Acts 5:32).

Today, fulfill the commands of Jesus, and receive His promise of “rivers of living water” flowing from you. This Spirit-filled life will fill you with unlimited power to do the works of Christ (John 14:12), bringing blessing to ourselves and everyone we meet!

Speak the Word — Rivers of living water flow from me! (John 7:38)
