Psalm 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Insight on the Word

The Lord gives His children two wonderful promises in this passage. 1) The Lord will sustain us and 2) the Lord will never allow us to be moved. Man must only do one thing: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord!”

Like all the promises of God, this one too is conditional. Often we as Christians tend to emphasize the promises and ignore their conditions. Some even murmur and complain when promises aren’t fulfilled. Yet there is much more to Christianity than its benefits; there are also it’s commands (1,050 of them) which must be met in order to receive the promises.

Much like David, the Apostle Peter tells us in the New Testament: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) You see, it is not as if we do not care or have burdens, it is that we who believe in the Lord, have learned to cast our burdens and the care of them, over on the Lord. And in so doing we have the promise of Peter: “for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). And, the promise of David: “he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22).

Today can be a day of rest, lightness and care free living in Christ! For Jesus Himself told us: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). You need only determine in your heart to truly give all your burdens and the care of them, to the Lord. Refuse to under the weight of the world and choose to live burden free! When you are obedient to live this kind of life, God will fulfill His promise to you: “he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Speak the Word — I cast my burdens upon the Lord, He sustains me! (Psalm 55:22)
