Psalm 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Insight on the Word

Many are the promises of God. They cover every known need of life, here and hereafter, and reveal to what extent God has made provision to help man in his struggle to overcome sin, sickness, and Satan, and regain the full dominion that was lost in Adam when he fell. Psalm 91:10 is a wonderful promise! No plague (sickness or disease) is allowed in the house of the righteous. There are two reasons for this that are attached to this verse.

Just before this verse in Psalms 91:9 we read: “Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;” The believer who has made Jesus his Lord, has also made Jesus his dwelling place or habitation. Jesus never was affected by sickness and disease during his earth life and as we dwell and live with him, we can also enjoy this same “Jesus protection” from all plagues.

Just after this verse in Psalms 91:11 we read: “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” This is the second reason no plague can come close to our dwelling: Angels are at work protecting us. Angels have been commissioned to not allow any evil to befall us and to allow no plague to even get close to us. They truly are our guardian angels!

John tells us that: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:” (John 10:10) But with Jesus on our side and angels working to protect us, plagues have no opportunity of getting anywhere near us! Indeed because of the goodness of God we really do become immune from plagues!
